What a Year for Lackawaxen River Trails!
4 boat launches! We have 4 new boat launches on the Lackawaxen River thanks to significant community support, many funders and grantmakers, partnership with local government, and lots and lots of collaboration. What a journey we celebrate, and it has only just begun! On October 20th we officially opened the Indian Orchard river access on the Lackawaxen River, the fourth public access from Honesdale to Hawley. Paddlers, anglers, birders, walkers, picnickers, everyone young and old, can enjoy the river in their own way, whether in quiet observation or active exploration.

The river trail is thanks to you, our donors and local grantors, along with the county commissioners, the PA Fish & Boat Commission, and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Like a jigsaw puzzle, every check, every grant, became part of the bigger picture.
And now, the Lackawaxen River Trails group is already looking to add to that picture.
Our attention now moves from the river trail to land trails. Some of the trails are already familiar, well used by those who live nearby but ready for some improvements such as signage, benches, and parking spaces. Some are envisioned, ready to be designed and mapped and constructed, like the newly opened Gorge Trail outside of Hawley.

The next steps we take will follow thesteps we took to build the river trail….local donations, local grants, and state grants. Whatever you are able to give will help us build walking trails for everyone, for residents and visitors, for families and friends, for all ages and abilities.
Can we count on you to make a donation of $100 or more to support this dream? If you areable to make a donation during the year, your support will give us the push we need. You can give anytime through our website visiting lackawaxenrivertrails.org. You can also send a check payable to the Wayne County Community Foundation, 918 Church Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 with “Trails” on the memo line.
With gratitude,
George Brown
Lackawaxen River Trails Board Chair
